Our Beginning

Holocaust Remebrance

Our brand and image for HealthPride stems from the historic symbolism of the pink triangle, originally used during the Holocaust to mark and persecute homosexual men alongside other minorities, specifically the Jewish community. By reclaiming this symbol within our logo, HealthPride honors the lives lost and those who could not stand against such oppression. The pink triangle in our logo stands as a powerful reminder of the past atrocities faced by the LGBTQ+ community, compelling us to remember and respect those who suffered. This emblem fuels our dedication to creating safe, inclusive educational and medical environments, while also empowering a new generation to stand strong against ongoing discrimination.

AIDS-Epidemic Remebrance

During the 1980s, the pink triangle gained prominence in the fight against the AIDS epidemic, especially through the activism of groups like ACT UP (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power). It was used to raise awareness about the crisis and to protest against government inaction and societal stigma towards those affected by HIV/AIDS. The pink triangle has since become an enduring emblem of both remembrance for past suffering and a call to action for ongoing struggles for LGBTQ+ rights and health equality. In the 21st century, HealthPride proudly utilizes the pink triangle in conjunction with the caduceus, a greek symbol for medicine, to promote an new generation of inclusive healthcare for the LGBTQ+ community.

Formal Launch

The original idea behind HealthPride combined fighting 2 concepts: LGBT barriers in medicine and the rise of "Don't Say Gay" legislation harming queer students/youth.

HealthPride's board of directors was curated with students from various backgrounds who are committed to making the future of medicine more inclusive for all.

The summer of 2024 was used to finalize both the HealthPride website and a comprehensive array of educational resources such as posters and rack cards.

As the 2024-2025 school year began, we officially debuted HealthPride and created alliances with a multitude of schools, sponsors, and hospitals throughout the South.
